Welcome to all cruise ship visitors All cruise ships coming into the area dock at the Port of Tauranga, located at Mount Maunganui. 82 magnificent cruise ships will visit during the 2011/2012 season bring an excess of 190,000 passengers and crew to the sunny Bay of Plenty. Those that just want a relaxing day wandering our beautiful town and shops, can simply disembark at the Port of Tauranga gates at the left end of the wharf. Here visitors will be greeted by our friendly volunteer guides who can give them information about Mount Maunganui, where to go and what to do. Mount Maunganui, our stunning seaside suburb of Tauranga City, is in only 200 metres from the wharf so it’s an easy stroll for all ages and abilities. We also have a wheelchair available at the Mount Mainstreet office for your convenience. This can be booked ahead of time, or simply collected from our office on the day of your arrival. In our stunning shopping street has approximately 200 shops and businesses stretched over 1kilometre (900 yards). The cobblestone paths lined with palm trees compliment the relaxing seaside environment. The beach is just metres away, and the walk around Mauao is completely free. For the fitter visitors, a short walk to the top is definitely recommended.
There are local buses or taxis that can take visitors to the shops and businesses in the CBD of Tauranga, 15 minutes across the harbour bridge. Passengers are able to book tours and trips onboard their Cruise Ship or in the i-site now located at the Port. ![]() The Mount Maunganui & District Lioness Club run the Volunteer Meet and Greet programme for the Cruise Ship visitors at the Port Gates. These lovely local volunteers are positioned at the gates at the Port of Tauranga every time a cruise ship arrives in to the region. They have got local Visitor Guides, maps, and fantastic local knowledge of both Mount Maunganui and Tauranga. Feel free to ask them any questions any time! |
